C100 connection: Andrew D’Souza is part of the Top Hat Monocle team that participates in the Canadian Technology Accelerator at Rocket Space in San Francisco, CA. As the C100 works closely with the CTA companies through mentoring and events, he has made solid connections within the C100 and Canadian tech community in the Valley. Not only do we love working with Andrew, but we are so excited to hear about this fantastic news, especially since, as Andrew describes, it involves a great collaboration of US and Canadian investors: “All of these VC2VC and community building events really help the reputation of Canadian firms in the Valley and encourage co-investing, which is going to help a ton of Canadian companies.” Andrew believes in the value of both a local and a Valley investor, and told us that “it ends up being better for the ecosystem when there is more collaboration, there are more deals, and with US firms feeling more comfortable investing in Canadian companies and investing with Canadian partners. ” For example, “SoftTech and iNovia invested in Vidyard before us, so they’ve worked together previously and know they are comfortable co-investing again,” he explained. “As those relationships get fostered, it’s better for entrepreneurs in general.”
