C100 CLEANTECH LAUNCHES IN TORONTO

Canadians bridge Silicon Valley and Canadian CleanTech Entrepreneurs to spur growth and innovation

Toronto, ON (Nov 17, 2011) – The C100 officially launched its newest initiative: C100 CleanTech  - making available capital, mentorship and opportunities for strategic partnership to Canadian entrepreneurs in the cleantech sector.

“Canada is a world-class country that has the talent and potential to be a global leader in the evolution of CleanTech but has not yet fully harnessed the opportunity,” said C100 CleanTech lead Jonathan Quick.  “What’s missing is access to ‘scale up’ capital, experienced mentors and key talent and access to international markets and that is why we are launching C100 CleanTech – to help fill in those gaps.”

C100 CleanTech is an initiative of C100 whose CleanTech charter members represent more than $7B of capital and have been integral parts of the teams that built some the world’s seminal CleanTech companies including Vantage Point Capital Partners, Venrock, Mayfield Fund, Mohr Davidow, NGEN, Physic Ventures, Sail Capital Partners and Propel Partners.

The purpose of C100 CleanTech is to ensure that early-stage Canadian CleanTech companies and the entrepreneurs that create them are appropriately resourced to thrive in today’s global economy.  The aim is to harness the combined capabilities of the innovation engine of Silicon Valley, the multinational and domestic reach of the Canadian corporate ecosystem and the influence and support of the Canadian political environment to assist best of breed Canadian startups in growing into meaningful global companies.

48hrs in the Valley CleanTech, the first C100 mentoring event in the Silicon Valley designed for clean technology companies specifically (held in parallel with 48hrs in the Valley ICT) – in partnership with the Canadian Consulate General in San Francisco-Silicon Valley -  will take place December 5 – 7th, 2011 in San Francisco and San Jose.
